Shanee (1989): Pakistan’s First Science Fiction Movie

Shanee is a special movie because it was the first science fiction film made in Pakistan. It came out in 1989 and was directed by Saeed Rizvi. The movie stars Babra Sharif, Sherry Malik, Asif Khan, and others. What made Shanee famous was its special effects — the first time such effects were used in Pakistani movies.

The story starts with a glowing spaceship landing in a forest near a village. An alien comes out and follows a scared woman named Heena (played by Babra Sharif) to her home. The alien takes on the look of a young man named Shanee (Sherry Malik), whose photo he saw. Shanee was supposed to marry Heena but was thought to be killed by a bad man called Shamsher Khan (Asif Khan).

The alien, now looking like Shanee, is welcomed by the villagers and Heena’s family. But when he refuses to marry Heena, she forces him to change his mind. The alien starts to enjoy life on Earth and even falls in love with Heena. However, the villain Shamsher Khan finds out about him and trouble begins.

The alien came to Earth looking for a new home for his people but now must decide if he will stay on Earth or go back to his planet.

Shanee was the first movie of its kind in Pakistan. It showed that Pakistani filmmakers could make exciting and different stories using special effects. Even today, people remember Shanee as a classic film that was ahead of its time.

If you like science fiction or want to see a unique Pakistani movie, Shanee is a great choice!
